BP Groups Extras: what is next?

For several weeks already I’ve been working with my rather old plugin BuddyPress Groups Extras. I have released several versions (with both new features and bug fixes). The percentage of code that was rewritten is nearly 70% and the plugin became much, much better.

BuddyPress Groups should have more functionality, as they are an essential part of any community. And to make the plugin useful to end users I have implemented the poll right into the plugin admin area.

The results showed me that the most requested feature is search. Groups fields and pages generate content that is currently not ready searchable. Not good. So I developed an extension to my plugin, that will give ability to search. Currently I’m testing everything and preparing to release it.

After that I will work with much more flexible users access management OR ability to have several top level pages. Both of these features have the same number of poll answers (16.13%).

So what is next in BP Groups Extras development? Pro version!

  1. Hi. Would it be possible to have sub pages of the main “Groups” page to show up as a sub navigation (say, if their name/slug matches a group name) on the group home page? I think that could solve many needs for groups that don’t want to go sub domain style on a multi site install but still like to have flexible page handling. Possible?

  2. Hi Anton,
Yes, this is possible and in my todo list 🙂
I’m working according the poll results in a plugin admin area, and now preparing to release the search by fields and pages content. According to them both several top level pages and better users access management to custom fields and pages have the same value. So I’m currently in doubts what to do next.

  3. I would buy Blog, Pages, and Access right now if they were available. Looking forward to it. We don’t need search right now but probably later on. The rest would be awesome though.

  4. Those components are on their way, so stay tuned 🙂 I will announce via twitter, google+ and the plugin itself once those features will be ready.
