Speaking at WordCamp Kyiv 2016

WordCamp Kyiv 2016

As officially announced on WordCamp Kyiv blog:

https://2016.kyiv.wordcamp.org/news/vyacheslav-abakumov/

I will be speaking at WordCamp Kyiv 2016. It will be held on September 24 & 25, 2016 in Kyiv, Ukraine (more details in English here). My topic:

Why do you need BuddyPress?

That was a not very easy decision – of course, I always wanted to do that, and really happy that it will happen in Ukraine. But there were several reasons that didn’t allow me to submit the topic instantly.

First of all, I have no real experience in speaking in front of a tech-savvy people. I presented different topics in university and later, participated in WordPress meetups (actively, but not yet as a speaker), but now I feel that I need more – more people to talk with, more topics to engage. And not because I’m bored or whatever, but because I want to evolve – as a developer, as a project manager, now as a speaker, and in general as a person.

Second reason, why I had initial doubts in participating in WordCamp, – time limits. I have different projects to care about, both clients and personal (more about that in future posts). And to talk I will need to prepare the speech, slides, some materials, think about different possible questions that I may be asked etc.

Third reason is about the geography. WordCamp takes place in a beautiful capital of Ukraine – Kyiv, while I live in another city, so commuting and night-spending questions are also quite relevant as well.

But in the end, possibility to get new experience is priceless. Talking to a wider audience is great, promoting BuddyPress is useful, so all that made me to accept the new challenge.
